Orimatīrasutta

The wrong path is the near shore where most people dwell; the right path is the far shore, where few have crossed over.

ฉบับหลวงโอริมสูตร

ข้อความไทยนี้คือ พระไตรปิฎกภาษาไทย ฉบับหลวง ซึ่งแปลจากพระไตรปิฎกบาลีคนละฉบับกับบาลีที่แสดงอยู่ด้านล่าง จึงไม่ได้เรียงตรงกันบรรทัดต่อบรรทัด — อ่านเป็นสำนวนแปลอิสระอีกฉบับหนึ่ง

ข้อ ๑๑๘ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย เราจักแสดงฝั่งนี้และฝั่งโน้นแก่เธอทั้งหลายเธอทั้งหลาย จงฟัง จงใส่ใจให้ดี เราจักกล่าว ภิกษุเหล่านั้นทูลรับแด่พระผู้มีพระภาคแล้ว พระผู้มีพระภาค ได้ตรัสว่า ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ฝั่งนี้เป็นไฉน และฝั่งโน้นเป็นไฉน ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย มิจฉาทิฐิเป็นฝั่งนี้ สัมมาทิฐิเป็นฝั่งโน้น ฯลฯมิจฉาวิมุติเป็นฝั่งนี้ สัมมาวิมุติเป็นฝั่งโน้น ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย นี้แลเป็นฝั่งนี้นี้เป็นฝั่งโน้น ฯ

บรรดามนุษย์ทั้งหลาย เหล่าชนที่ไปถึงฝั่งโน้น มีประมาณ

น้อย ส่วนหมู่สัตว์นอกนี้เลาะไปตามฝั่งทั้งนั้น ส่วนชน

เหล่าใดเป็นผู้ประพฤติตามธรรม ในธรรมอันพระตถาคต

ตรัสแล้วโดยชอบ ชนเหล่านั้นจักข้ามพ้นวัฏฏะอันเป็น

บ่วงมาร ที่ข้ามพ้นได้แสนยาก แล้วจักถึงฝั่งโน้น คือ

นิพพาน บัณฑิตละธรรมดำเสียแล้ว พึงยังธรรมขาวให้เจริญ

บัณฑิตละกามทั้งหลายแล้ว เป็นผู้ไม่มีกังวล ออกจาก

ความอาลัย อาศัยธรรมที่ไม่มีความอาลัย ปรารถนา

ความยินดียิ่งในวิเวกที่ยินดีได้แสนยาก บัณฑิตพึงยังตน

ให้ผ่องแผ้วจากเครื่องเศร้าหมองจิตทั้งหลาย บัณฑิตเหล่าใด

อบรมจิตแล้วโดยชอบ ในองค์ธรรมเป็นเครื่องตรัสรู้ทั้งหลาย

เล่ม ๒๔ · หน้า ๒๐๔ไม่ถือมั่นแล้ว ยินดีในนิพพานเป็นที่สละความถือมั่น

บัณฑิตเหล่านั้น สิ้นอาสวะ มีความรุ่งเรือง ดับสนิท

    “Orimañca, bhikkhave, tīraṁ desessāmi pārimañca tīraṁ.

    “Mendicants, I will teach you the near shore and the far shore.

  5. 1.2

    Taṁ suṇātha, sādhukaṁ manasi karotha, bhāsissāmī”ti.

    Listen and apply your mind well, I will speak.”

  6. 1.3

    “Evaṁ, bhante”ti kho te bhikkhū bhagavato paccassosuṁ.

    “Yes, sir,” they replied.

    Bhagavā etadavoca:

    The Buddha said this:

    “Katamañca, bhikkhave, orimaṁ tīraṁ, katamañca pārimaṁ tīraṁ?

    “And what, mendicants, is the near shore? What is the far shore?

    Micchādiṭṭhi orimaṁ tīraṁ, sammādiṭṭhi pārimaṁ tīraṁ …pe…

    Wrong view is the near shore, and right view is the far shore. …

    micchāvimutti orimaṁ tīraṁ, sammāvimutti pārimaṁ tīraṁ.

    Wrong freedom is the near shore, and right freedom is the far shore.

    Idaṁ kho, bhikkhave, orimaṁ tīraṁ, idaṁ pārimaṁ tīranti.

    This is the near shore, and this is the far shore.

    Appakā te manussesu,

    Few are those among humans

  13. 3.2

    ye janā pāragāmino;

    who cross to the far shore.

  14. 3.3

    Athāyaṁ itarā pajā,

    The rest just run

    tīramevānudhāvati.

    around on the near shore.

  16. 4.1

    Ye ca kho sammadakkhāte,

    When the teaching is well explained,

    dhamme dhammānuvattino;

    the people who practice accordingly

  18. 4.3

    Te janā pāramessanti,

    will cross over

  19. 4.4

    maccudheyyaṁ suduttaraṁ.

    Death’s dominion so hard to pass.

    Kaṇhaṁ dhammaṁ vippahāya,

    Rid of dark qualities,

  21. 5.2

    sukkaṁ bhāvetha paṇḍito;

    an astute person would develop the bright.

  22. 5.3

    Okā anokamāgamma,

    Having left home for homelessness

  23. 5.4

    viveke yattha dūramaṁ.

    in seclusion, where joy is hard,

  24. 6.1

    Tatrābhiratimiccheyya,

    they’d long for satisfaction there.

  25. 6.2

    hitvā kāme akiñcano;

    Forsaking sensual pleasures, owning nothing,

  26. 6.3

    Pariyodapeyya attānaṁ,

    an astute person would cleanse themselves

  27. 6.4

    cittaklesehi paṇḍito.

    of mental corruptions.

  28. 7.1

    Yesaṁ sambodhiyaṅgesu,

    And those whose minds are rightly developed

  29. 7.2

    sammā cittaṁ subhāvitaṁ;

    in the awakening factors;

  30. 7.3

    Ādānapaṭinissagge,

    letting go of attachments,

  31. 7.4

    anupādāya ye ratā;

    they delight in not grasping.

  32. 7.5

    Khīṇāsavā jutimanto,

    With defilements ended, brilliant,

  33. 7.6

    te loke parinibbutā”ti.

    they are quenched in this world.”
