เล่ม ๒๒ · หน้า ๑๓๐ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ภิกษุผู้พยาบาลภิกษุไข้ประกอบด้วยธรรม ๕ ประการ ไม่ ควรเป็นผู้พยาบาลภิกษุไข้ ธรรม ๕ ประการเป็นไฉน คือ ภิกษุผู้พยาบาลเป็นผู้ไม่สามารถเพื่อ จัดยา ๑ ไม่ทราบสิ่งสบายและไม่สบาย นำสิ่งไม่สบายเข้าไปให้ นำสิ่งสบายออกไป ๑ เป็น ผู้เพ่งอามิษพยาบาล ไม่เป็นผู้มีเมตตาจิตพยาบาล ๑ เป็นผู้มักรังเกียจเพื่อนำออกซึ่งอุจจาระ
ปัสสาวะ อาเจียร หรือน้ำลาย ๑ ไม่สามารถจะชี้แจงให้ภิกษุไข้สมาทาน อาจหาญ ร่าเริง ด้วยธรรมีกถาโดยกาลอันสมควร ๑ ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ภิกษุผู้พยาบาลภิกษุไข้ประกอบด้วย ธรรม ๕ ประการนี้แล ไม่ควรเป็นผู้พยาบาลภิกษุไข้ ฯ
ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ภิกษุผู้พยาบาลภิกษุไข้ประกอบด้วยธรรม ๕ ประการ ควรเป็นผู้ พยาบาลภิกษุไข้ ธรรม ๕ ประการเป็นไฉน คือ ภิกษุผู้พยาบาลย่อมเป็นผู้สามารถเพื่อจัดยา ๑ ทราบสิ่งสบายและไม่สบาย นำสิ่งไม่สบายออกไป ๑นำสิ่งสบายเข้ามาให้ ๑ เป็นผู้มี เมตตาจิตพยาบาล ไม่เป็นผู้เพ่งอามิษพยาบาล ๑ไม่รังเกียจเพื่อนำออกซึ่งอุจจาระ ปัสสาวะ อาเจียร หรือน้ำลาย ๑ เป็นผู้สามารถเพื่อชี้แจงให้ภิกษุไข้สมาทาน อาจหาญ ร่าเริง ด้วยธรรมี กถาโดยกาลอันสมควร ๑ ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ภิกษุผู้พยาบาลภิกษุไข้ประกอบด้วยธรรม ๕ ประการนี้แล ควรเป็นผู้พยาบาลภิกษุไข้ ฯ

“Pañcahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato gilānupaṭṭhāko nālaṁ gilānaṁ upaṭṭhātuṁ.
“Mendicants, a carer with five qualities is not competent to care for a patient.

Katamehi pañcahi?
What five?
- 1.3
Nappaṭibalo hoti bhesajjaṁ saṁvidhātuṁ;
They’re unable to prepare medicine.
- 1.4
sappāyāsappāyaṁ na jānāti, asappāyaṁ upanāmeti, sappāyaṁ apanāmeti;
They don’t know what is suitable and unsuitable, so they supply what is unsuitable and remove what is suitable.

āmisantaro gilānaṁ upaṭṭhāti, no mettacitto;
They care for the sick for the sake of material benefits, not out of love.
- 1.6
jegucchī hoti uccāraṁ vā passāvaṁ vā vantaṁ vā kheḷaṁ vā nīharituṁ;
They’re disgusted to remove feces, urine, vomit, or spit.

nappaṭibalo hoti gilānaṁ kālena kālaṁ dhammiyā kathāya sandassetuṁ samādapetuṁ samuttejetuṁ sampahaṁsetuṁ.
They’re unable to educate, encourage, fire up, and inspire the patient with a Dhamma talk from time to time.

Imehi kho, bhikkhave, pañcahi dhammehi samannāgato gilānupaṭṭhāko nālaṁ gilānaṁ upaṭṭhātuṁ.
A carer with these five qualities is not competent to care for a patient.
