ฉบับหลวงอุปปาทสูตร

พระผู้มีพระภาคประทับอยู่ ณ พระเชตวัน อารามของท่านอนาถบิณฑิกเศรษฐี เขตพระนครสาวัตถี ณ ที่นั้นแล พระผู้มีพระภาคตรัสเรียกภิกษุทั้งหลาย … แล้วได้ตรัสว่า ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ความเกิด ความตั้งอยู่ ความบังเกิด ความปรากฏแห่งปฐวีธาตุนั่น เป็นความเกิดแห่งทุกข์ เป็นที่ตั้งแห่งโรค เป็นความปรากฏแห่งชรามรณะ ความเกิด ความตั้งอยู่ ความบังเกิด ความปรากฏแห่งอาโปธาตุ … แห่งเตโชธาตุ … แห่งวาโยธาตุ นั่นเป็นความเกิดแห่งทุกข์ เป็นที่ตั้งแห่งโรค เป็นความปรากฏแห่งชรามรณะ ฯ
ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ก็ความดับ ความสงบ ความสูญสิ้นแห่งปฐวีธาตุ นั่นเป็นความดับแห่งทุกข์ เป็นความสงบแห่งโรค เป็นความสูญสิ้นแห่งชรามรณะ ความดับ ความสงบ ความสูญสิ้นแห่งอาโปธาตุ … แห่งเตโชธาตุ … แห่งวาโยธาตุ นั่นเป็นความดับแห่งทุกข์ เป็นความสงบแห่งโรค เป็นความสูญสิ้นแห่งชรามรณะ ฯ

“Yo, bhikkhave, pathavīdhātuyā uppādo ṭhiti abhinibbatti pātubhāvo, dukkhasseso uppādo rogānaṁ ṭhiti jarāmaraṇassa pātubhāvo.
“Mendicants, the arising, continuation, and manifestation and regeneration of the earth element is the arising of suffering, the continuation of diseases, and the manifestation of old age and death.
