Sutavantasutta

Mahākoṭṭhita asks what an educated mendicant should focus on, and Sāriputta replies that if they focus on aggregates as impermanent, etc. they may become a stream-enterer. A stream-enterer contemplating in the same way may become a non-returner, a once-returner, and a perfected one.

สมัยหนึ่ง ท่านพระสารีบุตรและท่านพระมหาโกฏฐิตะอยู่ ณ ป่าอิสิปตนมฤคทายวัน ใกล้พระนครพาราณสี. ครั้งนั้นแล ท่านพระมหาโกฏฐิตะออกจากที่พักผ่อนในเวลาเย็น เข้าไปหาท่านพระสารีบุตรถึงที่อยู่ ฯลฯ ได้ถามว่า ดูกรท่านพระสารีบุตร ภิกษุผู้ได้สดับแล้วควรกระทำธรรมเหล่าไหนไว้ในใจโดยแยบคาย? ท่านสารีบุตรตอบว่า ดูกรท่านโกฏฐิตะ ภิกษุผู้ได้สดับแล้วควรกระทำอุปาทานขันธ์ ๕ ไว้ในใจโดยแยบคาย โดยความเป็นของไม่เที่ยง ฯลฯ เป็นของไม่ใช่ตัวตน. อุปาทานขันธ์ ๕ เป็นไฉน? คือ อุปาทานขันธ์คือ รูป ฯลฯ อุปาทานขันธ์คือ วิญญาณ. ดูกรท่านโกฏฐิตะ ภิกษุผู้ได้สดับแล้ว ควรกระทำอุปาทานขันธ์ ๕ เหล่านี้ไว้ในใจโดยแยบคาย โดยความเป็นของไม่เที่ยง ฯลฯ เป็นของไม่ใช่ตัวตน. ดูกรท่านโกฏฐิตะ ข้อนี้เป็นฐานะที่จะมีได้ คือ ภิกษุผู้ได้สดับแล้วกระทำอุปาทานขันธ์ ๕ เหล่านี้ไว้ในใจโดยแยบคาย โดยความเป็นของไม่เที่ยง ฯลฯ เป็นของไม่ใช่ตัวตน พึงทำให้แจ้งซึ่งโสดาปัตติผล.

โก. ดูกรท่านพระสารีบุตร ภิกษุผู้เป็นพระโสดาบันเล่า ควรกระทำธรรมเหล่าไหนไว้ในใจโดยแยบคาย?

สา. ดูกรท่านโกฏฐิตะ แม้ภิกษุผู้เป็นโสดาบันก็ควรกระทำอุปาทานขันธ์ ๕ เหล่านี้นั่นแล ไว้ในใจโดยแยบคาย โดยความเป็นของไม่เที่ยง ฯลฯ เป็นของไม่ใช่ตัวตน. ดูกรท่านโกฏฐิตะ ข้อนี้ก็เป็นฐานะที่จะมีได้ คือ ภิกษุผู้เป็นโสดาบันกระทำอุปาทานขันธ์ ๕ เหล่านี้ไว้ในใจโดยแยบคาย โดยความเป็นของไม่เที่ยง ฯลฯ เป็นของไม่ใช่ตัวตน พึงกระทำให้แจ้งซึ่งสกทาคามิผล ฯลฯ อนาคามิผล ฯลฯ อรหัตผล.

โก. ดูกรท่านพระสารีบุตร ภิกษุผู้เป็นอรหันต์เล่าควรกระทำธรรมเหล่าไหนไว้ในใจโดยแยบคาย?

สา. ดูกรท่านโกฏฐิตะ แม้ภิกษุผู้เป็นอรหันต์ก็ควรกระทำอุปาทานขันธ์ ๕ เหล่านี้นั่นแล ไว้ในใจโดยแยบคาย โดยความเป็นของไม่เที่ยง เป็นทุกข์ เป็นดังโรค เป็นดังฝี เป็นดังลูกศร เป็นความคับแค้น เป็นอาพาธ เป็นของแปรปรวนเป็นของทรุดโทรม เป็นของสูญ เป็นของไม่ใช่ตัวตน. ดูกรท่านโกฏฐิตะ กิจที่จะพึงทำให้ยิ่งขึ้นไป หรือการสั่งสมกิจที่กระทำแล้ว ย่อมไม่มีแก่พระอรหันต์ และแม้ถึงธรรมเหล่านี้ที่ภิกษุผู้เป็นพระอรหันต์เจริญแล้ว กระทำให้มากแล้ว ก็เป็นไปเพื่ออยู่เป็นสุขในปัจจุบัน และเพื่อสติสัมปชัญญะเท่านั้น.

    Ekaṁ samayaṁ āyasmā ca sāriputto āyasmā ca mahākoṭṭhiko bārāṇasiyaṁ viharanti isipatane migadāye.

    At one time Venerable Sāriputta and Venerable Mahākoṭṭhita were staying near Varanasi in the deer park at Isipatana.

    It’s possible that a learned mendicant who rationally applies the mind to the five grasping aggregates will realize the fruit of stream-entry.”

    “Arahatāpi khvāvuso koṭṭhika, ime pañcupādānakkhandhā aniccato dukkhato rogato gaṇḍato sallato aghato ābādhato parato palokato suññato anattato yoniso manasi kātabbā.

    “Reverend Koṭṭhita, a perfected one should rationally apply the mind to the five grasping aggregates as impermanent, as suffering, as diseased, as a boil, as a dart, as gloom, as an affliction, as alien, as breaking apart, as empty, as not-self.

    Natthi, khvāvuso, arahato uttari karaṇīyaṁ, katassa vā paticayo;

    A perfected one has nothing more to do, and nothing that needs improvement.

    api ca kho ime dhammā bhāvitā bahulīkatā diṭṭhadhammasukhavihārāya ceva saṁvattanti satisampajaññāya cā”ti.

    Still, these things, when developed and cultivated, lead to blissful meditation in this life, and also to mindfulness and situational awareness.”
