ข้อ ๔๖๘ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย บุคคล ๓ จำพวกนี้ มีปรากฏอยู่ในโลก ๓ จำพวกเป็นไฉน คือ คนตาบอด ๑ คนตาเดียว ๑ คนสองตา ๑ ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย บุคคลตาบอดเป็นไฉน บุคคลบางคนในโลกนี้ ไม่มีนัยน์ตาอันเป็นเหตุได้โภคทรัพย์ที่ยังไม่ได้ หรือทำโภคทรัพย์ที่ได้แล้ว ให้ทวีมากขึ้น ไม่มีนัยน์ตาเครื่องรู้ธรรมที่เป็นกุศลและอกุศล รู้ธรรมที่มีโทษและไม่มีโทษ รู้ธรรม ที่เลวและประณีตรู้ธรรมที่มีส่วนเปรียบด้วยธรรมฝ่ายดำและฝ่ายขาว ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย นี้เรียก ว่าคนตาบอด ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย บุคคลตาเดียวเป็นไฉน บุคคลบางคนในโลกนี้ มีนัยน์ตา อันเป็นเหตุได้โภคทรัพย์ที่ยังไม่ได้ หรือทำโภคทรัพย์ที่ได้แล้วให้ทวีมากขึ้น แต่ไม่มีนัยน์ตาเป็น เครื่องรู้ธรรมที่เป็นกุศลและอกุศล รู้ธรรมที่มีโทษและไม่มีโทษ รู้ธรรมที่เลวและประณีต รู้ธรรม ที่มีส่วนเปรียบด้วยธรรมฝ่ายดำและฝ่ายขาว ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย นี้เรียกว่าคนตาเดียว ดูกรภิกษุ ทั้งหลาย ก็บุคคลสองตาเป็นไฉน บุคคลบางคนในโลกนี้ มีนัยน์ตาเป็นเหตุได้โภคทรัพย์ที่ยัง ไม่ได้ทำโภคทรัพย์ที่ได้แล้วให้ทวีมากขึ้น ทั้งมีนัยน์ตาเป็นเครื่องรู้ธรรมที่เป็นกุศลและอกุศล รู้ธรรมที่มีโทษและไม่มีโทษ รู้ธรรมที่เลวหรือประณีต รู้ธรรมที่มีส่วนเปรียบด้วยธรรมฝ่ายดำและ ฝ่ายขาว ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย นี้เรียกว่าคนสองตา ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย บุคคล ๓ จำพวกนี้แล มี ปรากฏอยู่ในโลก ฯ

โภคทรัพย์เห็นปานดั่งนั้น ย่อมไม่มีแก่คนตาบอดเลย และคนตาบอด ย่อมไม่ทำบุญอีกด้วย โทษเคราะห์ ย่อมมีแก่คนตาบอดเสียจักษุในโลก ทั้งสอง ต่อมา เราได้กล่าวถึงคนตาเดียวนี้ไว้อีกคนหนึ่ง คนตาเดียว นั้นเป็นผู้คลุกเคล้ากับธรรมและอธรรม แสวงหาโภคทรัพย์โดยการคด

เล่ม ๒๐ · หน้า ๑๒๓โกง และการพูดเท็จ อันเป็นส่วนแห่งความเป็นขโมย ทั้งสองอย่าง ก็มาณพผู้บริโภคกาม ย่อมเป็นคนฉลาดที่จะรวบรวมโภคทรัพย์ เขาผู้ เป็นคนตาเดียว จากโลกนี้แล้วไปนรกย่อมเดือดร้อน อนึ่ง คนสองตา เรากล่าวว่าเป็นบุคคลที่ประเสริฐสุด คนสองตานั้น ย่อมให้ทรัพย์ที่ตน ได้มาด้วยความหมั่นเป็นทาน แต่โภคะที่ตนหาได้โดยชอบธรรม เพราะ เป็นผู้มีความดำริประเสริฐสุด มีใจไม่สงสัย ย่อมเข้าถึงฐานะอันเจริญ ซึ่ง บุคคลไปถึงแล้วไม่เศร้าโศก บุคคลควรเว้นคนตาบอด กับ คนตาเดียว เสียให้ห่างไกล แต่ควรคบคนสองตา ซึ่งเป็นบุคคลผู้ประเสริฐสุด ฯ

    “Tayome, bhikkhave, puggalā santo saṁvijjamānā lokasmiṁ.

    “These three individuals are found in the world.

    Katame tayo?

    What three?

  6. 1.3

    Andho, ekacakkhu, dvicakkhu.

    The blind, the one-eyed, and the two-eyed.

    Katamo ca, bhikkhave, puggalo andho?

    Who is the blind individual?

  8. 1.5

    Idha, bhikkhave, ekaccassa puggalassa tathārūpaṁ cakkhu na hoti yathārūpena cakkhunā anadhigataṁ vā bhogaṁ adhigaccheyya adhigataṁ vā bhogaṁ phātiṁ kareyya;

    It’s someone who doesn’t have the kind of vision that’s needed to acquire more wealth or to increase the wealth they’ve already acquired.

    tathārūpampissa cakkhu na hoti yathārūpena cakkhunā kusalākusale dhamme jāneyya, sāvajjānavajje dhamme jāneyya, hīnappaṇīte dhamme jāneyya, kaṇhasukkasappaṭibhāge dhamme jāneyya.

    Nor do they have the kind of vision that’s needed to know the difference between qualities that are skillful and unskillful, blameworthy and blameless, inferior and superior, and those with a portion of dark or bright.

    Ayaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, puggalo andho.

    This is called a blind individual.

    Katamo ca, bhikkhave, puggalo ekacakkhu?

    Who is the individual with one eye?

  12. 2.2

    Idha, bhikkhave, ekaccassa puggalassa tathārūpaṁ cakkhu hoti yathārūpena cakkhunā anadhigataṁ vā bhogaṁ adhigaccheyya adhigataṁ vā bhogaṁ phātiṁ kareyya;

    It’s someone who has the kind of vision that’s needed to acquire more wealth and to increase the wealth they’ve already acquired.

    tathārūpaṁ panassa cakkhu na hoti yathārūpena cakkhunā kusalākusale dhamme jāneyya, sāvajjānavajje dhamme jāneyya, hīnappaṇīte dhamme jāneyya, kaṇhasukkasappaṭibhāge dhamme jāneyya.

    But they don’t have the kind of vision that’s needed to know the difference between qualities that are skillful and unskillful, blameworthy and blameless, inferior and superior, and those with a portion of dark or bright.

    Ayaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, puggalo ekacakkhu.

    This is called a one-eyed individual.

    Who is the individual with two eyes?

    Idha, bhikkhave, ekaccassa puggalassa tathārūpaṁ cakkhu hoti yathārūpena cakkhunā anadhigataṁ vā bhogaṁ adhigaccheyya, adhigataṁ vā bhogaṁ phātiṁ kareyya;

    It’s someone who has the kind of vision that’s needed to acquire more wealth and to increase the wealth they’ve already acquired.

    tathārūpampissa cakkhu hoti yathārūpena cakkhunā kusalākusale dhamme jāneyya;

    And they have the kind of vision that’s needed to know the difference between skillful and unskillful, blameworthy and blameless, inferior and superior, or qualities on the side of dark and bright.

  18. 3.4

    sāvajjānavajje dhamme jāneyya, hīnappaṇīte dhamme jāneyya, kaṇhasukkasappaṭibhāge dhamme jāneyya.

  19. 3.5

    Ayaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, puggalo dvicakkhu.

    This is called a two-eyed individual.

  20. 3.6

    Ime kho, bhikkhave, tayo puggalā santo saṁvijjamānā lokasminti.

    These are the three individuals found in the world.

  21. 4.1

    Na ceva bhogā tathārūpā,

    Neither suitable wealth,

  22. 4.2

    na ca puññāni kubbati;

    nor merit do they make.

  23. 4.3

    Ubhayattha kaliggāho,

    They hold a losing hand on both counts,

  24. 4.4

    andhassa hatacakkhuno.

    those who are blind, with ruined eyes.

  25. 5.1

    Athāparāyaṁ akkhāto,

    And now the one-eyed

  26. 5.2

    Ekacakkhu ca puggalo;

    individual is explained.

  27. 5.3

    Dhammādhammena saṭhoso,

    By methods good and bad,

  28. 5.4

    Bhogāni pariyesati.

    that devious person seeks wealth.

  29. 6.1

    Theyyena kūṭakammena,

    Both by fraudulent, thieving deeds,

  30. 6.2

    musāvādena cūbhayaṁ;

    and also by lies,

  31. 6.3

    Kusalo hoti saṅghātuṁ,

    the young man’s skilled at piling up money,

  32. 6.4

    kāmabhogī ca mānavo;

    and enjoying sensual pleasures.

  33. 6.5

    Ito so nirayaṁ gantvā,

    From here they go to hell—

  34. 6.6

    ekacakkhu vihaññati.

    the one-eyed person is ruined.

  35. 7.1

    Dvicakkhu pana akkhāto,

    And now the two-eyed is explained,

  36. 7.2

    seṭṭho purisapuggalo;

    the best individual.

  37. 7.3

    Dhammaladdhehi bhogehi,

    Their wealth is earned legitimately,

  38. 7.4

    uṭṭhānādhigataṁ dhanaṁ.

    money acquired by their own hard work.

  39. 8.1

    Dadāti seṭṭhasaṅkappo,

    They give with best of intentions,

  40. 8.2

    abyaggamānaso naro;

    that peaceful-hearted man.

  41. 8.3

    Upeti bhaddakaṁ ṭhānaṁ,

    They go to a good place,

  42. 8.4

    yattha gantvā na socati.

    where there is no sorrow.

  43. 9.1

    Andhañca ekacakkhuñca,

    The blind and the one-eyed,

  44. 9.2

    ārakā parivajjaye;

    you should avoid from afar.

  45. 9.3

    Dvicakkhuṁ pana sevetha,

    But you should keep the two-eyed close,

  46. 9.4

    seṭṭhaṁ purisapuggalan”ti.

    the best individual.”
