The happiness of ownership, using wealth, debtlessness, and blamelessness.

ฉบับหลวงอันนนาถสูตร

เล่ม ๒๑ · หน้า ๖๘ครั้งนั้นแล ท่านอนาถบิณฑิกคฤหบดีเข้าไปเฝ้าพระผู้มีพระภาคถึงที่ประทับ ถวายบังคมแล้วนั่ง ณ ที่ควรส่วนข้างหนึ่ง ครั้นแล้วพระผู้มีพระภาคได้ตรัสว่า ดูกรคฤหบดี สุข ๔ ประการนี้ อันคฤหัสถ์ผู้บริโภคกามพึงได้รับตามกาลตามสมัย สุข ๔ ประการเป็นไฉน คือ สุขเกิดแต่ความมีทรัพย์ ๑ สุขเกิดแต่การจ่ายทรัพย์บริโภค ๑ สุขเกิดแต่ความไม่เป็นหนี้ ๑ สุขเกิด แต่ประกอบการงานที่ปราศจากโทษ ๑ ดูกรคฤหบดี ก็สุขเกิดแต่ความมีทรัพย์เป็นไฉนโภค ทรัพย์ของกุลบุตรในโลกนี้ เป็นของที่เขาหามาได้ด้วยความขยันหมั่นเพียรสั่งสมขึ้นด้วยกำลังแขน

มีเหงื่อโทรมตัว ประกอบในธรรม ได้มาโดยธรรมเขาย่อมได้รับความสุขโสมนัสว่า โภคทรัพย์ ที่หามาได้ด้วยความขยันหมั่นเพียรสั่งสมขึ้นด้วยกำลังแขน มีเหงื่อโทรมตัว ประกอบในธรรม

ได้มาโดยธรรมของเรามีอยู่ นี้เรียกว่า สุขเกิดแต่ความมีทรัพย์ ดูกรคฤหบดี ก็สุขเกิดแต่การจ่าย ทรัพย์บริโภคเป็นไฉน กุลบุตรในโลกนี้ ย่อมใช้สอยโภคทรัพย์ และย่อมกระทำบุญทั้งหลาย ด้วยโภคทรัพย์ที่ตนหามาได้ด้วยความขยันหมั่นเพียร สั่งสมขึ้นด้วยกำลังแขน มีเหงื่อโทรมตัว ประกอบในธรรม ได้มาโดยธรรม เขาย่อมได้รับความสุขโสมนัสว่า เราย่อมใช้สอยโภคทรัพย์ และย่อมกระทำบุญทั้งหลายด้วยโภค ดูกรคฤหบดี ก็สุขเกิดแต่ความไม่เป็นหนี้เป็นไฉน กุลบุตร ในโลกนี้ ย่อมไม่เป็นหนี้อะไรๆของใครๆ น้อยก็ตาม มากก็ตาม เขาย่อมได้รับความสุขโสมนัสว่า เรา ไม่เป็นหนี้อะไรๆ ของใครๆ น้อยก็ตาม มากก็ตาม นี้เรียกว่า สุขเกิดแต่ความไม่เป็นหนี้ ดูกร คฤหบดี ก็สุขเกิดแต่การประกอบการงานที่ปราศจากโทษเป็นไฉนอริยสาวกในธรรมวินัยนี้ เป็นผู้ประกอบด้วยกายกรรม วจีกรรม มโนกรรม อันหาโทษมิได้ เขาย่อมได้รับความสุขโสมนัส ว่า เราประกอบด้วยกายกรรม วจีกรรมมโนกรรม อันหาโทษมิได้ นี้เรียกว่า สุขเกิดแต่การ ประกอบการงานที่ปราศจากโทษ ดูกรคฤหบดี สุข ๔ ประการนี้แล อันคฤหบดีผู้บริโภคกามพึงได้ รับตามกาลตามสมัย ฯ

นรชนผู้มีอันจะตายเป็นสภาพ รู้ความไม่เป็นหนี้ว่าเป็น สุขแล้ว พึงระลึกถึงสุขเกิดแต่ความมีทรัพย์ เมื่อใช้สอย โภคะเป็นสุข อยู่ ย่อมเห็นแจ้งด้วยปัญญา ผู้มีเมธาดี เมื่อเห็นแจ้ง ย่อมรู้ ส่วนทั้ง ๒ ว่า สุขแม้ทั้ง ๓ อย่างนี้ ไม่ถึงเสี้ยวที่ ๑๖ อัน จำแนกแล้ว ๑๖ ครั้ง ของสุขเกิด แต่การประกอบการงานที่ ปราศจากโทษ ฯ

  4. 1.1

    Atha kho anāthapiṇḍiko gahapati yena bhagavā tenupasaṅkami; upasaṅkamitvā bhagavantaṁ abhivādetvā ekamantaṁ nisīdi. Ekamantaṁ nisinnaṁ kho anāthapiṇḍikaṁ gahapatiṁ bhagavā etadavoca:

    Then the householder Anāthapiṇḍika went up to the Buddha, bowed, and sat down to one side. The Buddha said to him:

    “Cattārimāni, gahapati, sukhāni adhigamanīyāni gihinā kāmabhoginā kālena kālaṁ samayena samayaṁ upādāya.

    “Householder, these four kinds of happiness can be earned by a layperson who enjoys sensual pleasures, depending on time and occasion.

    What four?

    Atthisukhaṁ, bhogasukhaṁ, ānaṇyasukhaṁ, anavajjasukhaṁ.

    The happiness of ownership, using wealth, debtlessness, and blamelessness.

    Katamañca, gahapati, atthisukhaṁ?

    And what is the happiness of ownership?

  9. 3.2

    Idha, gahapati, kulaputtassa bhogā honti uṭṭhānavīriyādhigatā bāhābalaparicitā sedāvakkhittā dhammikā dhammaladdhā.

    It’s when a gentleman owns legitimate wealth that he has earned by his own efforts and initiative, built up with his own hands, gathered by the sweat of the brow.

    So ‘bhogā me atthi uṭṭhānavīriyādhigatā bāhābalaparicitā sedāvakkhittā dhammikā dhammaladdhā’ti adhigacchati sukhaṁ, adhigacchati somanassaṁ.

    When he reflects on this, he’s filled with pleasure and happiness.

    Idaṁ vuccati, gahapati, atthisukhaṁ.

    This is called ‘the happiness of ownership’.

    Katamañca, gahapati, bhogasukhaṁ?

    And what is the happiness of using wealth?

  13. 4.2

    Idha, gahapati, kulaputto uṭṭhānavīriyādhigatehi bhogehi bāhābalaparicitehi sedāvakkhittehi dhammikehi dhammaladdhehi paribhuñjati puññāni ca karoti.

    It’s when a gentleman uses his legitimate wealth, and makes merit with it.

    So ‘uṭṭhānavīriyādhigatehi bhogehi bāhābalaparicitehi sedāvakkhittehi dhammikehi dhammaladdhehi paribhuñjāmi puññāni ca karomī’ti adhigacchati sukhaṁ, adhigacchati somanassaṁ.

    When he reflects on this, he’s filled with pleasure and happiness.

    Idaṁ vuccati, gahapati, bhogasukhaṁ.

    This is called ‘the happiness of using wealth’.

  16. 5.1

    Katamañca, gahapati, ānaṇyasukhaṁ?

    And what is the happiness of debtlessness?

  17. 5.2

    Idha, gahapati, kulaputto na kassaci kiñci dhāreti appaṁ vā bahuṁ vā.

    It’s when a gentleman owes no debt, large or small, to anyone.

  18. 5.3

    So ‘na kassaci kiñci dhāremi appaṁ vā bahuṁ vā’ti adhigacchati sukhaṁ, adhigacchati somanassaṁ.

    When he reflects on this, he’s filled with pleasure and happiness.

  19. 5.4

    Idaṁ vuccati, gahapati, ānaṇyasukhaṁ.

    This is called ‘the happiness of debtlessness’.

  20. 6.1

    Katamañca, gahapati, anavajjasukhaṁ?

    And what is the happiness of blamelessness?

  21. 6.2

    Idha, gahapati, ariyasāvako anavajjena kāyakammena samannāgato hoti, anavajjena vacīkammena samannāgato hoti, anavajjena manokammena samannāgato hoti.

    It’s when a noble disciple has blameless conduct by way of body, speech, and mind.

  22. 6.3

    So ‘anavajjenamhi kāyakammena samannāgato, anavajjena vacīkammena samannāgato, anavajjena manokammena samannāgato’ti adhigacchati sukhaṁ, adhigacchati somanassaṁ.

    When he reflects on this, he’s filled with pleasure and happiness.

  23. 6.4

    Idaṁ vuccati, gahapati, anavajjasukhaṁ.

    This is called ‘the happiness of blamelessness’.

  24. 6.5

    Imāni kho, gahapati, cattāri sukhāni adhigamanīyāni gihinā kāmabhoginā kālena kālaṁ samayena samayaṁ upādāyāti.

    These four kinds of happiness can be earned by a layperson who enjoys sensual pleasures, depending on time and occasion.

  25. 7.1

    Ānaṇyasukhaṁ ñatvāna,

    Knowing the happiness of debtlessness,

  26. 7.2

    Atho atthisukhaṁ paraṁ;

    and the extra happiness of possession,

  27. 7.3

    Bhuñjaṁ bhogasukhaṁ macco,

    a mortal enjoying the happiness of using wealth,

  28. 7.4

    Tato paññā vipassati.

    then discerns clearly with wisdom.

  29. 8.1

    Vipassamāno jānāti,

    Discerning clearly, a clever person knows

  30. 8.2

    ubho bhoge sumedhaso;

    both kinds of happiness:

  31. 8.3

    Anavajjasukhassetaṁ,

    the other kind is not worth a sixteenth part

  32. 8.4

    kalaṁ nāgghati soḷasin”ti.

    of the happiness of blamelessness.”

    Dutiyaṁ.
