Sarāgasutta

The greedy, the hateful, the delusional, and the conceited.

ข้อ ๖๖ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย บุคคล ๔ จำพวกนี้ มีปรากฏอยู่ในโลก ๔ จำพวกเป็นไฉน

คือ บุคคลผู้มีราคะ ๑ มีโทสะ ๑ มีโมหะ ๑ มีมานะ ๑บุคคล ๔ จำพวกนี้แล มีปรากฏอยู่ ในโลก ฯ

ชนทั้งหลาย กำหนัดนักในอารมณ์เป็นที่ตั้งแห่งความ กำหนัด เพลิดเพลินในรูปที่น่ารัก เป็นสัตว์เลวทราม อันโมหะ ผูกไว้ ย่อมยังเครื่องผูกให้เจริญ เป็นผู้ไม่ฉลาด ย่อมกระทำ อกุศล กรรมอันเกิดแต่ราคะบ้าง เกิดแต่โทสะบ้าง เกิด

    “Cattārome, bhikkhave, puggalā santo saṁvijjamānā lokasmiṁ.

    “Mendicants, these four individuals are found in the world.

    What four?

    Sarāgo, sadoso, samoho, samāno—

    The greedy, the hateful, the delusional, and the conceited.

    Ime kho, bhikkhave, cattāro puggalā santo saṁvijjamānā lokasminti.

    These are the four individuals found in the world.

    Sārattā rajanīyesu,

    Full of desire for desirable things,

  9. 2.2

    Piyarūpābhinandino;

    enjoying things that seem pleasant,

  10. 2.3

    Mohena āvutā sattā,

    beings veiled by delusion

  11. 2.4

    Baddhā vaḍḍhenti bandhanaṁ.

    only tighten their bonds.

    Rāgajaṁ dosajañcāpi,

    Born of greed, born of hate,

    mohajaṁ cāpaviddasū;

    born of delusion: the ignorant

  14. 3.3

    Karontākusalaṁ kammaṁ,

    do unskillful deeds

  15. 3.4

    savighātaṁ dukhudrayaṁ.

    that afflict and produce pain.

  16. 4.1

    Avijjānivutā posā,

    If you act out of these qualities,
    that’s what you become.

  17. 4.2

    andhabhūtā acakkhukā;

    But men shrouded by ignorance,

  18. 4.3

    Yathā dhammā tathā santā,

    are blind, with no eyes to see,

  19. 4.4

    na tassevanti maññare”ti.

    and they never imagine that this could be so.”

    Chaṭṭhaṁ.
