Kusinārasutta

As he lay dying, the Buddha encouraged his disciples to ask any last questions.

ข้อความไทยนี้คือ พระไตรปิฎกภาษาไทย ฉบับหลวง ซึ่งแปลจากพระไตรปิฎกบาลีคนละฉบับกับบาลีที่แสดงอยู่ด้านล่าง จึงไม่ได้เรียงตรงกันบรรทัดต่อบรรทัด — อ่านเป็นสำนวนแปลอิสระอีกฉบับหนึ่ง

ข้อ ๗๖สมัยหนึ่ง พระผู้มีพระภาคประทับอยู่ ณ ระหว่างต้นรังทั้งคู่ในสาลวัน อันเป็น ที่ประพาสของมัลลกษัตริย์ ใกล้กรุงกุสินารา ในปรินิพพานสมัยณ ที่นั้นแล พระผู้มีพระภาคตรัส

เล่ม ๒๑ · หน้า ๗๙เรียกภิกษุทั้งหลายว่า ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ภิกษุเหล่านั้นทูลรับพระผู้มีพระภาคแล้ว พระผู้มีพระภาคจึง ตรัสว่า ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ภิกษุสักรูปหนึ่งพึงมีความสงสัยหรือเคลือบแคลงในพระพุทธเจ้า ใน ธรรม ในพระสงฆ์ ในมรรค หรือในปฏิปทา เธอทั้งหลายจงถามเถิด อย่าได้มีความเสียใจใน ภายหลังว่า พระศาสดาได้ประทับอยู่เฉพาะหน้าของเราทั้งหลาย เราทั้งหลายไม่อาจจะสอบถามพระผู้ มีพระภาคเจ้าเฉพาะพระพักตร์ได้ เมื่อพระผู้มีพระภาคตรัสอย่างนี้แล้ว ภิกษุเหล่านั้นได้นิ่งอยู่ แม้ ครั้งที่ ๒ … แม้ครั้งที่ ๓พระผู้มีพระภาคก็ตรัสกะภิกษุทั้งหลายว่า ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ภิกษุสักรูป หนึ่งพึงมีความสงสัยหรือเคลือบแคลงในพระพุทธเจ้า ในธรรม ในพระสงฆ์ ในมรรค หรือในปฏิปทา เธอทั้งหลายจงถามเถิด อย่าได้เสียใจในภายหลังว่า พระศาสดา ประทับอยู่เฉพาะหน้าของเราทั้ง หลาย เราทั้งหลายไม่อาจจะสอบถามพระผู้มีพระภาคเฉพาะพระพักตร์ได้ ภิกษุเหล่านั้นก็ได้นิ่งอยู่ ครั้งนั้นแล พระผู้มีพระภาคตรัสเตือนภิกษุทั้งหลายว่า เป็นได้ภิกษุทั้งหลาย เธอทั้งหลายไม่พึงถาม แม้ด้วยความเคารพต่อพระศาสดา แม้สหายก็จงบอกแก่สหายเถิด เมื่อพระผู้มีพระภาคตรัสอย่าง นี้แล้ว ภิกษุเหล่านั้นก็ได้นิ่งอยู่ ครั้งนั้นแล ท่านพระอานนท์ได้กราบทูลพระผู้มีพระภาคว่า ข้าแต่ พระองค์ผู้เจริญ น่าอัศจรรย์ ไม่เคยมี ข้าพระองค์เลื่อมใสในภิกษุสงฆ์อย่างนี้ แม้ภิกษุรูปหนึ่งใน ภิกษุสงฆ์นี้ก็ไม่มีความสงสัย หรือความเคลือบแคลงในพระพุทธเจ้า ในพระธรรม ในพระสงฆ์ ใน มรรค หรือในปฏิปทาพระผู้มีพระภาคตรัสว่า ดูกรอานนท์ เธอกล่าวด้วยความเลื่อมใสแท้ ญาณ ของตถาคตในข้อนี้ก็เหมือนกันว่า แม้ภิกษุรูปหนึ่งในภิกษุสงฆ์นี้ ไม่มีความสงสัยหรือความเคลือบ แคลงในพระพุทธเจ้า ในธรรม ในพระสงฆ์ ในมรรค หรือในปฏิปทาดูกรอานนท์ แท้จริงบรรดา ภิกษุ ๕๐๐ รูปนี้ รูปสุดท้ายภายหลังเป็นโสดาบัน มีอันไม่ตกต่ำเป็นธรรมดา เป็นผู้เที่ยงจะได้ตรัสรู้ ต่อไป ฯ

    At Kusinārā

  4. 1.1

    Ekaṁ samayaṁ bhagavā kusinārāyaṁ viharati upavattane mallānaṁ sālavane antarena yamakasālānaṁ parinibbānasamaye.

    At one time the Buddha was staying between a pair of sal trees in the sal forest of the Mallas at Upavattana near Kusinārā at the time of his full extinguishment.

    Tatra kho bhagavā bhikkhū āmantesi:

    There the Buddha addressed the mendicants,

    “bhikkhavo”ti.

    “Mendicants!”

    “Bhadante”ti te bhikkhū bhagavato paccassosuṁ.

    “Venerable sir,” they replied.

    Bhagavā etadavoca:

    The Buddha said this:

    “Siyā kho pana, bhikkhave, ekabhikkhussapi kaṅkhā vā vimati vā buddhe vā dhamme vā saṅghe vā magge vā paṭipadāya vā, pucchatha, bhikkhave, mā pacchā vippaṭisārino ahuvattha:

    “Perhaps even a single mendicant has doubt or uncertainty regarding the Buddha, the teaching, the Saṅgha, the path, or the practice. So ask, mendicants! Don’t regret it later, thinking:

    ‘sammukhībhūto no satthā ahosi, nāsakkhimha bhagavantaṁ sammukhā paṭipucchitun’”ti.

    ‘We were in the Teacher’s presence and we weren’t able to ask the Buddha a question.’”

    Evaṁ vutte, te bhikkhū tuṇhī ahesuṁ.

    When this was said, the mendicants kept silent.

    Dutiyampi kho bhagavā bhikkhū āmantesi:

    For a second time the Buddha addressed the mendicants: …

    Atha kho bhagavā bhikkhū āmantesi:

    Then the Buddha said to the mendicants:

    “siyā kho pana, bhikkhave, satthugāravenapi na puccheyyātha, sahāyakopi, bhikkhave, sahāyakassa ārocetū”ti.

    “Mendicants, perhaps you don’t ask out of respect for the Teacher. So let a friend tell a friend.”

  22. 5.3

    Evaṁ vutte, te bhikkhū tuṇhī ahesuṁ.

    When this was said, the mendicants kept silent.

  23. 5.4

    Atha kho āyasmā ānando bhagavantaṁ etadavoca:

    Then Venerable Ānanda said to the Buddha:

    “acchariyaṁ, bhante, abbhutaṁ, bhante.

    “It’s incredible, sir, it’s amazing!

  25. 5.6

    Evaṁ pasanno ahaṁ, bhante. Natthi imasmiṁ bhikkhusaṅghe ekabhikkhussapi kaṅkhā vā vimati vā buddhe vā dhamme vā saṅghe vā magge vā paṭipadāya vā”ti.

    I am quite confident that there’s not even a single mendicant in this Saṅgha who has doubt or uncertainty regarding the Buddha, the teaching, the Saṅgha, the path, or the practice.”

  26. 6.1

    “Pasādā kho tvaṁ, ānanda, vadesi. Ñāṇameva hettha, ānanda, tathāgatassa: ‘natthi imasmiṁ bhikkhusaṅghe ekabhikkhussapi kaṅkhā vā vimati vā buddhe vā dhamme vā saṅghe vā magge vā paṭipadāya vā’.

    “Ānanda, you speak from faith. But the Realized One knows that there’s not even a single mendicant in this Saṅgha who has doubt or uncertainty regarding the Buddha, the teaching, the Saṅgha, the path, or the practice.

  27. 6.2

    Imesañhi, ānanda, pañcannaṁ bhikkhusatānaṁ yo pacchimako bhikkhu so sotāpanno avinipātadhammo niyato sambodhiparāyaṇo”ti.

    Even the last of these five hundred mendicants is a stream-enterer, not liable to be reborn in the underworld, assured, destined for awakening.”
