ฉบับหลวงอนาคตสูตรที่ ๔
ข้อความไทยนี้คือ พระไตรปิฎกภาษาไทย ฉบับหลวง ซึ่งแปลจากพระไตรปิฎกบาลีคนละฉบับกับบาลีที่แสดงอยู่ด้านล่าง จึงไม่ได้เรียงตรงกันบรรทัดต่อบรรทัด — อ่านเป็นสำนวนแปลอิสระอีกฉบับหนึ่ง
ข้อ ๘๐ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ภัยในอนาคต ๕ ประการนี้ ซึ่งยังไม่บังเกิดในบัดนี้ แต่ จักบังเกิดในกาลต่อไป ภัยเหล่านั้นอันเธอทั้งหลายพึงรู้ไว้เฉพาะครั้นแล้วพึงพยายามเพื่อละภัย เหล่านั้น ๕ ประการเป็นไฉน คือ
ในอนาคต ภิกษุทั้งหลายจักเป็นผู้ชอบจีวรดีงาม เมื่อชอบจีวรดีงาม ก็จักละความ เป็นผู้ถือทรงผ้าบังสุกุลเป็นวัตร จักละเสนาสนะอันสงัดคือป่าและป่าชัฏจักประชุมกันอยู่ที่ บ้าน นิคมและราชธานี และจักถึงการแสวงหาไม่สมควร อันไม่เหมาะสมต่างๆ เพราะเหตุจีวร ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ภัยในอนาคตข้อที่ ๑ นี้ซึ่งยังไม่บังเกิดในบัดนี้ แต่จักบังเกิดในกาลต่อไป ภัยนั้นอันเธอทั้งหลายพึงรู้ไว้เฉพาะ ครั้นแล้วพึงพยายามเพื่อละภัยนั้น ฯ
อีกประการหนึ่ง ในอนาคต ภิกษุทั้งหลายจักเป็นผู้ชอบบิณฑบาตที่ดีงาม เมื่อชอบ บิณฑบาตที่ดีงาม ก็จักละความเป็นผู้ถือเที่ยวบิณฑบาตเป็นวัตร ละเสนาสนะอันสงัดคือป่า และป่าชัฏ จักประชุมกันอยู่ที่บ้าน นิคม และราชธานี แสวงหาบิณฑบาตที่มีรสอันเลิศด้วย ปลายลิ้น และจักถึงการแสวงหาอันไม่สมควร ไม่เหมาะสมต่างๆ เพราะเหตุแห่งบิณฑบาต
ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ภัยในอนาคตข้อที่ ๒ นี้ ซึ่งยังไม่บังเกิดในบัดนี้ แต่จักบังเกิดในกาลต่อไป ภัยนั้นอันเธอทั้งหลายพึงรู้ไว้เฉพาะ ครั้นแล้วพึงพยายามเพื่อละภัยนั้น ฯ
อีกประการหนึ่ง ในอนาคต ภิกษุทั้งหลายจักเป็นผู้ชอบเสนาสนะดีงาม เมื่อชอบ เสนาสนะดีงาม ก็จักละความเป็นผู้ถือการอยู่ป่าเป็นวัตร ละเสนาสนะอันสงัดคือป่าและป่าชัฏ
จักประชุมกันอยู่ที่บ้าน นิคม และราชธานี และจักถึงการแสวงหาอันไม่สมควร ไม่เหมาะสม

อีกประการหนึ่ง ในอนาคต ภิกษุทั้งหลายจักเป็นผู้อยู่คลุกคลีด้วยภิกษุณีนางสิกขมานา และสมณุทเทส เมื่อมีการคลุกคลีด้วยภิกษุณี นางสิกขมานาและสมณุทเทส พึงหวังข้อนี้ได้ ว่า เธอเหล่านั้นจักเป็นผู้ไม่ยินดีประพฤติพรหมจรรย์ จักต้องอาบัติเศร้าหมองบางอย่าง หรือจัก บอกคืนสิกขาเวียนมาเพื่อเป็นคฤหัสถ์ ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ภัยในอนาคตข้อที่ ๔ นี้ ซึ่งยังไม่ บังเกิดในบัดนี้ แต่จักบังเกิดในกาลต่อไป ภัยนั้นอันเธอทั้งหลายพึงรู้ไว้เฉพาะครั้นแล้วพึง พยายามเพื่อละภัยนั้น ฯ
อีกประการหนึ่ง ในอนาคต ภิกษุทั้งหลายจักเป็นผู้คลุกคลีด้วยอารามิกบุรุษ และ สมณุทเทส เมื่อมีการคลุกคลีด้วยอารามิกบุรุษ และสมณุทเทสพึงหวังข้อนี้ได้ว่า เธอเหล่านั้น จักเป็นผู้ประกอบการบริโภคของที่สะสมไว้มีประการต่างๆ จักกระทำนิมิตแม้อย่างหยาบที่แผ่นดิน บ้าง ที่ปลายของเขียวบ้างดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ภัยในอนาคตข้อที่ ๕ นี้ ซึ่งยังไม่บังเกิดในบัดนี้ แต่จักบังเกิดในกาลต่อไป ภัยนั้นอันเธอทั้งหลายพึงรู้ไว้เฉพาะ ครั้นแล้วพึงพยายามเพื่อละภัยนั้น ฯ
ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ภัยในอนาคต ๕ ประการนี้แล ซึ่งยังไม่บังเกิดในบัดนี้ แต่จัก บังเกิดในกาลต่อไป ภัยเหล่านั้นอันเธอทั้งหลายพึงรู้ไว้เฉพาะครั้นแล้วพึงพยายามเพื่อละภัย เหล่านั้น ฯ

“Pañcimāni, bhikkhave, anāgatabhayāni etarahi asamuppannāni āyatiṁ samuppajjissanti.
“Mendicants, these five future perils have not currently arisen, but they will arise in the future.

Tāni vo paṭibujjhitabbāni;
You should look out for them
- 1.3
paṭibujjhitvā ca tesaṁ pahānāya vāyamitabbaṁ.
and try to give them up.

Katamāni pañca?
What five?
- 2.2
Bhavissanti, bhikkhave, bhikkhū anāgatamaddhānaṁ cīvare kalyāṇakāmā.
In a future time there will be mendicants who like nice robes.
- 2.3
Te cīvare kalyāṇakāmā samānā riñcissanti paṁsukūlikattaṁ, riñcissanti araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni;
They will neglect the practice of wearing rag robes and the practice of frequenting remote lodgings in the wilderness and the forest.
- 2.4
gāmanigamarājadhānīsu osaritvā vāsaṁ kappessanti, cīvarahetu ca anekavihitaṁ anesanaṁ appatirūpaṁ āpajjissanti.
They will come down to the villages, towns, and capital cities and make their homes there. And they will employ many kinds of improper solicitation for the sake of a robe.

Idaṁ, bhikkhave, paṭhamaṁ anāgatabhayaṁ etarahi asamuppannaṁ āyatiṁ samuppajjissati.
This is the first future peril that has not currently arisen, but will arise in the future …

paṭibujjhitvā ca tassa pahānāya vāyamitabbaṁ.
- 3.1
Puna caparaṁ, bhikkhave, bhavissanti bhikkhū anāgatamaddhānaṁ piṇḍapāte kalyāṇakāmā.
Furthermore, in a future time there will be mendicants who like nice almsfood.
- 3.2
Te piṇḍapāte kalyāṇakāmā samānā riñcissanti piṇḍapātikattaṁ, riñcissanti araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni;
They will neglect the practice of walking for almsfood and the practice of frequenting remote lodgings in the wilderness and the forest.
- 3.3
gāmanigamarājadhānīsu osaritvā vāsaṁ kappessanti jivhaggena rasaggāni pariyesamānā, piṇḍapātahetu ca anekavihitaṁ anesanaṁ appatirūpaṁ āpajjissanti.
They will come down to the villages, towns, and capital cities and make their home there. And they will employ many kinds of improper solicitation for the sake of almsfood.

Idaṁ, bhikkhave, dutiyaṁ anāgatabhayaṁ etarahi asamuppannaṁ āyatiṁ samuppajjissati.
This is the second future peril that has not currently arisen, but will arise in the future …

Taṁ vo paṭibujjhitabbaṁ;

paṭibujjhitvā ca tassa pahānāya vāyamitabbaṁ.
- 4.1
Puna caparaṁ, bhikkhave, bhavissanti bhikkhū anāgatamaddhānaṁ senāsane kalyāṇakāmā.
Furthermore, in a future time there will be mendicants who like nice lodgings.
- 4.2
Te senāsane kalyāṇakāmā samānā riñcissanti rukkhamūlikattaṁ, riñcissanti araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni;
They will neglect the practice of staying at the root of a tree and the practice of frequenting remote lodgings in the wilderness and the forest.
- 4.3
gāmanigamarājadhānīsu osaritvā vāsaṁ kappessanti, senāsanahetu ca anekavihitaṁ anesanaṁ appatirūpaṁ āpajjissanti.
They will come down to the villages, towns, and capital cities and make their home there. And they will employ many kinds of improper solicitation for the sake of lodgings.

Puna caparaṁ, bhikkhave, bhavissanti bhikkhū anāgatamaddhānaṁ bhikkhunīsikkhamānāsamaṇuddesehi saṁsaṭṭhā viharissanti.
Furthermore, in a future time there will be mendicants who mix closely with nuns, trainee nuns, and novice nuns.
- 5.2
Bhikkhunīsikkhamānāsamaṇuddesehi saṁsagge kho pana, bhikkhave, sati etaṁ pāṭikaṅkhaṁ:
In such conditions, it can be expected that
- 5.3
‘anabhiratā vā brahmacariyaṁ carissanti, aññataraṁ vā saṅkiliṭṭhaṁ āpattiṁ āpajjissanti, sikkhaṁ vā paccakkhāya hīnāyāvattissanti’.
they will lead the spiritual life dissatisfied, or commit one of the corrupt offenses, or resign the training and return to a lesser life.
- 5.4
Idaṁ, bhikkhave, catutthaṁ anāgatabhayaṁ etarahi asamuppannaṁ āyatiṁ samuppajjissati.
This is the fourth future peril that has not currently arisen, but will arise in the future …
- 5.5
Taṁ vo paṭibujjhitabbaṁ;
- 5.6
paṭibujjhitvā ca tassa pahānāya vāyamitabbaṁ.
- 6.1
Puna caparaṁ, bhikkhave, bhavissanti bhikkhū anāgatamaddhānaṁ ārāmikasamaṇuddesehi saṁsaṭṭhā viharissanti.
Furthermore, in a future time there will be mendicants who mix closely with monastery attendants and novices.
- 6.2
Ārāmikasamaṇuddesehi saṁsagge kho pana, bhikkhave, sati etaṁ pāṭikaṅkhaṁ:
In such conditions it can be expected that
- 6.3
‘anekavihitaṁ sannidhikāraparibhogaṁ anuyuttā viharissanti, oḷārikampi nimittaṁ karissanti, pathaviyāpi haritaggepi’.
they will engage in storing up goods for their own use, and making obvious hints about digging the earth and cutting plants.
- 6.4
Idaṁ, bhikkhave, pañcamaṁ anāgatabhayaṁ etarahi asamuppannaṁ āyatiṁ samuppajjissati.
This is the fifth future peril that has not currently arisen, but will arise in the future …
- 6.5
Taṁ vo paṭibujjhitabbaṁ;

paṭibujjhitvā ca tassa pahānāya vāyamitabbaṁ.

Imāni kho, bhikkhave, pañca anāgatabhayāni etarahi asamuppannāni āyatiṁ samuppajjissanti.
