Dutiyasambhejjaudakasutta

For someone who has seen the truth, the suffering eliminated is like the water at the confluence of great rivers; what remains is like a few drops.

พระผู้มีพระภาคประทับอยู่ ณ พระเชตวัน อารามของท่านอนาถบิณฑิกเศรษฐี เขตพระนครสาวัตถี ณ ที่นั้นแล พระผู้มีพระภาคตรัสเรียกภิกษุทั้งหลาย … แล้วได้ตรัสว่า ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย แม่น้ำใหญ่เหล่านี้คือ คงคายมุนา อจิรวดี สรภู มหี ไหลมาบรรจบกัน แม่น้ำ นั้นพึงหมดไป สิ้นไป ยังเหลืออยู่สองสามหยาด เธอทั้งหลายจะสำคัญความข้อนั้นเป็นไฉน น้ำในที่บรรจบกันซึ่งหมดไป สิ้นไป กับน้ำที่ยังเหลืออยู่สองสามหยาด ไหนจะมากกว่ากัน ภิกษุทั้งหลายกราบทูลว่า ข้าแต่พระองค์ผู้เจริญ น้ำในที่บรรจบกันซึ่งหมดไป สิ้นไปนี้แหละมากกว่า น้ำที่ยังเหลืออยู่สองสามหยาดมีประมาณน้อย น้ำที่เหลืออยู่สองสามหยาดเมื่อเทียบเข้ากับน้ำในที่บรรจบกันซึ่งหมดไป สิ้นไปแล้ว ไม่เข้าถึงเสี้ยวที่ ๑๐๐ เสี้ยวที่ ๑,๐๐๐ เสี้ยวที่ ๑๐๐,๐๐๐ แม้ฉันใด ฯ

ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ฉันนั้นเหมือนกันแล ฯลฯ การได้ธรรมจักษุให้สำเร็จประโยชน์ใหญ่อย่างนี้ ฯ

    Sāvatthiyaṁ viharati.

    At Sāvatthī.

    “Seyyathāpi, bhikkhave, yatthimā mahānadiyo saṁsandanti samenti, seyyathidaṁ—

    “Mendicants, there are places where the great rivers—the Ganges, Yamunā, Aciravatī, Sarabhū, and Mahī—join together and converge.

    gaṅgā yamunā aciravatī sarabhū mahī, taṁ udakaṁ parikkhayaṁ pariyādānaṁ gaccheyya ṭhapetvā dve vā tīṇi vā udakaphusitāni.

    Suppose that water dried up and evaporated except two or three drops.

    Taṁ kiṁ maññatha, bhikkhave,

    What do you think, mendicants?

    katamaṁ nu kho bahutaraṁ, yaṁ vā sambhejjaudakaṁ parikkhīṇaṁ pariyādiṇṇaṁ yāni vā dve vā tīṇi vā udakaphusitāni avasiṭṭhānī”ti?

    Which is more: the water in the confluence that has dried up and evaporated, or the two or three drops left?”

    “Etadeva, bhante, bahutaraṁ sambhejjaudakaṁ yadidaṁ parikkhīṇaṁ pariyādiṇṇaṁ;

    “Sir, the water in the confluence that has dried up and evaporated is certainly more.

    appamattakāni dve vā tīṇi vā udakaphusitāni avasiṭṭhāni.

    The two or three drops left are tiny.

    Neva satimaṁ kalaṁ upenti na sahassimaṁ kalaṁ upenti na satasahassimaṁ kalaṁ upenti sambhejjaudakaṁ parikkhīṇaṁ pariyādiṇṇaṁ upanidhāya dve vā tīṇi vā udakaphusitāni avasiṭṭhānī”ti.

    Compared to the water in the confluence that has dried up and evaporated, it’s not nearly a hundredth, a thousandth, or a hundred thousandth part.”

    “In the same way, for a noble disciple, the suffering that’s over and done with is more …”
