Pathavīsutta
For someone who has seen the truth, the suffering eliminated is like the great earth; what remains is like seven balls of clay.
ฉบับหลวงปฐวีสูตรที่ ๑
ข้อความไทยนี้คือ พระไตรปิฎกภาษาไทย ฉบับหลวง ซึ่งแปลจากพระไตรปิฎกบาลีคนละฉบับกับบาลีที่แสดงอยู่ด้านล่าง จึงไม่ได้เรียงตรงกันบรรทัดต่อบรรทัด — อ่านเป็นสำนวนแปลอิสระอีกฉบับหนึ่ง
พระผู้มีพระภาคประทับอยู่ ณ พระเชตวัน อารามของท่านอนาถบิณฑิกเศรษฐี เขตพระนครสาวัตถี ณ ที่นั้นแล พระผู้มีพระภาคตรัสเรียกภิกษุทั้งหลาย … แล้วได้ตรัสว่า ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย บุรุษพึงวางก้อนดินเท่าเมล็ดกระเบา ๗ ก้อนไว้ที่แผ่นดินใหญ่ เธอจะสำคัญความข้อนั้นเป็นไฉน ก้อนดินเท่าเมล็ดกระเบา ๗ ก้อนที่บุรุษวางไว้กับแผ่นดินใหญ่ ไหนจะมากกว่ากัน ภิกษุทั้งหลายกราบทูลว่า ข้าแต่พระองค์ผู้เจริญ แผ่นดินใหญ่นี้แหละมากกว่า ก้อนดินเท่าเมล็ดกระเบา ๗ ก้อนที่บุรุษวางไว้มีประมาณน้อย ก้อนดินเท่าเมล็ดกระเบา ๗ ก้อนที่บุรุษวางไว้เมื่อเทียบเข้ากับแผ่นดินใหญ่ไม่เข้าถึงเสี้ยวที่ ๑๐๐ เสี้ยวที่ ๑,๐๐๐ เสี้ยวที่ ๑๐๐,๐๐๐ แม้ฉันใด ฯ
ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ฉันนั้นเหมือนกันแล ฯลฯ การได้ธรรมจักษุให้สำเร็จประโยชน์ใหญ่อย่างนี้ ฯ

The Earth

Sāvatthiyaṁ viharati.
At Sāvatthī.

“Seyyathāpi, bhikkhave, puriso mahāpathaviyā satta kolaṭṭhimattiyo guḷikā upanikkhipeyya.
“Mendicants, suppose a person was to place seven clay balls the size of jujube seeds on the great earth.

Taṁ kiṁ maññatha, bhikkhave,
What do you think, mendicants?

katamaṁ nu kho bahutaraṁ, yā vā satta kolaṭṭhimattiyo guḷikā upanikkhittā yā vā mahāpathavī”ti?
Which is more: the seven clay balls the size of jujube seeds, or the great earth?”

“Etadeva, bhante, bahutaraṁ, yadidaṁ mahāpathavī;
“Sir, the great earth is certainly more.

appamattikā satta kolaṭṭhimattiyo guḷikā upanikkhittā.
The seven clay balls the size of jujube seeds are tiny.

Neva satimaṁ kalaṁ upenti na sahassimaṁ kalaṁ upenti na satasahassimaṁ kalaṁ upenti mahāpathaviṁ upanidhāya satta kolaṭṭhimattiyo guḷikā upanikkhittā”ti.
Compared to the great earth, it’s not nearly a hundredth, a thousandth, or a hundred thousandth part.”
