ฉบับหลวงอัฏฐสตปริยายสูตร
ข้อความไทยนี้คือ พระไตรปิฎกภาษาไทย ฉบับหลวง ซึ่งแปลจากพระไตรปิฎกบาลีคนละฉบับกับบาลีที่แสดงอยู่ด้านล่าง จึงไม่ได้เรียงตรงกันบรรทัดต่อบรรทัด — อ่านเป็นสำนวนแปลอิสระอีกฉบับหนึ่ง
ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย เราจักแสดงธรรมปริยายอันมีปริยายต่าง ๆ ๑๐๘ แก่เธอ ทั้งหลาย เธอทั้งหลายจงฟังธรรมปริยายนั้น ก็ธรรมปริยายอันมีปริยาย ๑๐๘ เป็นไฉน ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย โดยปริยายหนึ่ง เรากล่าวเวทนา ๒ ก็มีโดยปริยายหนึ่ง เรากล่าวเวทนา ๓ ก็มี โดยปริยายหนึ่ง เรากล่าวเวทนา ๑๘ ก็มี โดยปริยายหนึ่ง เรากล่าวเวทนา ๓๖ ก็มี โดยปริยายหนึ่ง เรากล่าวเวทนา ๑๐๘ ก็มี ฯ
ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ก็เวทนา ๒ เป็นไฉน เวทนา ๒ คือ เวทนาทางกาย ๑ เวทนาทางใจ ๑ เหล่านี้เราเรียกว่า เวทนา ๒ ฯ
ก็เวทนา ๓ เป็นไฉน เวทนา ๓ คือ สุขเวทนา ๑ ทุกขเวทนา ๑ อทุกขมสุข เวทนา ๑ เหล่านี้เรียกว่า เวทนา ๓ ฯ
ก็เวทนา ๕ เป็นไฉน เวทนา ๕ คือ สุขินทรีย์ ๑ ทุกขินทรีย์ ๑ โสมนัสสินทรีย์ ๑ โทมนัสสินทรีย์ ๑ อุเบกขินทรีย์ ๑ เหล่านี้เราเรียกว่า เวทนา ๕ ฯ
ก็เวทนา ๖ เป็นไฉน เวทนา ๖ คือ จักขุสัมผัสสชาเวทนา ๑ โสตสัมผัสสชาเวทนา ๑ ฆานสัมผัสสชาเวทนา ๑ ชิวหาสัมผัสสชาเวทนา ๑ กายสัมผัสสชาเวทนา ๑ มโนสัมผัสสชาเวทนา ๑ เหล่านี้เรียกว่าเวทนา ๖ ฯ
ก็เวทนา ๑๘ เป็นไฉน เวทนา ๑๘ คือ เวทนาที่สหรคตด้วยโสมนัส ๖ เวทนาที่สหรคตด้วยโทมนัส ๖ เวทนาที่สหรคตด้วยอุเบกขา ๖ เหล่านี้เราเรียกว่าเวทนา ๑๘ ฯ
ก็เวทนา ๓๖ เป็นไฉน เวทนา ๓๖ คือ เคหสิตโสมนัส ๖ เนกขัมม โสมนัส ๖ เคหสิตโทมนัส ๖ เนกขัมมสิตโทมนัส ๖ เคหสิตอุเบกขา ๖ เนกขัมมสิตอุเบกขา ๖ เหล่านี้เราเรียกว่าเวทนา ๓๖ ฯ

Dvepi mayā, bhikkhave, vedanā vuttā pariyāyena;
Mendicants, in one explanation I’ve spoken of two feelings. In another explanation I’ve spoken of three feelings, or five, six, eighteen, thirty-six, or a hundred and eight feelings.
