Kāḷigodhasutta

Kāḷigodhā the Sakyan lady confirms to the Buddha that she possesses the four factors of stream-entry.

ข้อ ๑๕๙๖สมัยหนึ่ง พระผู้มีพระภาคประทับอยู่ ณ นิโคธาราม ใกล้พระนครกบิลพัสดุ์ แคว้นสักกะ ครั้งนั้นแล เวลาเช้า พระผู้มีพระภาคทรงครองอันตรวาสกแล้ว ทรงถือบาตรและจีวรเสด็จเข้าไปยังนิเวศน์ของเจ้าสากิยานีนามว่า กาฬิโคธา ประทับนั่งบนอาสนะที่เขาปูถวาย พระนางกาฬิโคธาสากิยานีเสด็จเข้าไปเฝ้าพระผู้มีพระภาค ทรงถวายบังคมพระผู้มีพระภาคแล้ว ประทับนั่ง ณ ที่ควรส่วนข้างหนึ่ง ครั้นแล้วพระผู้มีพระภาคได้ตรัสกะพระนางกาฬิโคธาสากิยานี ว่า

ข้อ ๑๕๙๗ดูกรพระนางโคธา อริยสาวิกาผู้ประกอบด้วยธรรม ๔ ประการ ย่อมเป็นพระโสดาบัน มีความไม่ตกต่ำเป็นธรรมดา เป็นผู้เที่ยงที่จะตรัสรู้ในเบื้องหน้า ธรรม ๔ ประการ เป็นไฉน? อริยสาวิกาในธรรมวินัยนี้ประกอบด้วยความเลื่อมใสอันไม่หวั่นไหวในพระพุทธเจ้า … ในพระธรรม … ในพระสงฆ์ … มีใจปราศจากความตระหนี่อันเป็นมลทิน มีจาคะอันไม่ติดขัด มีฝ่ามืออันชุ่ม ยินดีในการสละ ควรแก่การขอ ยินดีในการจำแนกทาน อยู่ครอบครองเรือน ดูกรพระนางโคธา อริยสาวิกาผู้ประกอบด้วยธรรม ๔ ประการนี้แล ย่อมเป็นพระโสดาบัน มีความไม่ตกต่ำเป็นธรรมดา เป็นผู้เที่ยงที่จะตรัสรู้ในเบื้องหน้า.

ข้อ ๑๕๙๘พระนางกาฬิโคธากราบทูลว่า ข้าแต่พระองค์ผู้เจริญ โสตาปัตติยังคะ ๔ ประการเหล่าใด ที่พระองค์ทรงแสดงไว้ธรรมเหล่านั้นมีอยู่ในหม่อมฉัน และหม่อมฉันก็เห็นชัดในธรรมเหล่านั้น เพราะว่าหม่อมฉันประกอบด้วยความเลื่อมใสอันไม่หวั่นไหวในพระพุทธเจ้า … ในพระธรรม … ในพระสงฆ์ … อนึ่ง ไทยธรรมอย่างใดอย่างหนึ่งที่มีอยู่ในสกุล หม่อมฉันเฉลี่ยไทยธรรมนั้นทั้งหมดกับท่านที่มีศีล มีกัลยาณธรรม.

พ. ดูกรพระนางโคธา เป็นลาภของท่าน ท่านได้ดีแล้ว โสดาปัตติผลท่านพยากรณ์แล้ว.

    Ekaṁ samayaṁ bhagavā sakkesu viharati kapilavatthusmiṁ nigrodhārāme.

    At one time the Buddha was staying in the land of the Sakyans, near Kapilavatthu in the Banyan Tree Monastery.

    Atha kho bhagavā pubbaṇhasamayaṁ nivāsetvā pattacīvaramādāya yena kāḷigodhāya sākiyāniyā nivesanaṁ tenupasaṅkami; upasaṅkamitvā paññatte āsane nisīdi.

    Then the Buddha robed up in the morning and, taking his bowl and robe, went to the home of Kāḷigodhā the Sakyan lady, where he sat down on the seat spread out.

    Atha kho kāḷigodhā sākiyānī yena bhagavā tenupasaṅkami; upasaṅkamitvā bhagavantaṁ abhivādetvā ekamantaṁ nisīdi. Ekamantaṁ nisinnaṁ kho kāḷigodhaṁ sākiyāniṁ bhagavā etadavoca:

    Then Kāḷigodhā went up to the Buddha, bowed, and sat down to one side. The Buddha said to her:

    “Catūhi kho, godhe, dhammehi samannāgatā ariyasāvikā sotāpannā hoti avinipātadhammā niyatā sambodhiparāyaṇā.

    “Godhā, a female noble disciple who has four things is a stream-enterer, not liable to be reborn in the underworld, assured, destined for awakening.

    And she lives at home with heart rid of the stain of stinginess, freely generous, open-handed, loving to let go, committed to charity, loving to give and to share.

    Imehi kho, godhe, catūhi dhammehi samannāgatā ariyasāvikā sotāpannā hoti avinipātadhammā niyatā sambodhiparāyaṇā”ti.

    A female noble disciple who has these four things is a stream-enterer, not liable to be reborn in the underworld, assured, destined for awakening.”

    “Sir, these four factors of stream-entry that were taught by the Buddha are found in me, and I exhibit them.
