A mendicant who craves the senses is under the sway of Māra.

ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย รูปที่จะพึงรู้แจ้งด้วยจักษุ อันน่าปรารถนา น่าใคร่ น่าพอใจ น่ารัก ชักให้ใคร่ ชวนให้กำหนัด มีอยู่ หากภิกษุเพลิดเพลิน หมกมุ่น พัวพันรูปนั้น ภิกษุนี้เรากล่าวว่า พัวพันอยู่ในรูป ไปสู่ที่อยู่ของมาร ตกอยู่ในอำนาจของมาร ถูกมารผู้มีบาปทำได้ตามปรารถนา ฯลฯ ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ธรรมารมณ์ที่จะพึงรู้แจ้งด้วยใจอันน่าปรารถนา น่าใคร่ น่าพอใจน่ารัก ชักให้ใคร่ ชวนให้กำหนัด มีอยู่ หากภิกษุเพลิดเพลิน หมกมุ่น พัวพันธรรมารมณ์นั้น ภิกษุนี้เรากล่าวว่า พัวพันอยู่ในธรรมารมณ์ ไปสู่ที่อยู่ของมาร ตกอยู่ในอำนาจของมาร ถูกมารผู้มีบาปทำได้ตามปรารถนา ฯ
ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย อนึ่ง รูปที่จะพึงรู้ด้วยจักษุอันน่าปรารถนา น่าใคร่ น่าพอใจ น่ารัก ชักให้ใคร่ ชวนให้กำหนัด มีอยู่ หากภิกษุไม่เพลิดเพลิน ไม่หมกมุ่น ไม่พัวพันรูปนั้น ภิกษุนี้เรากล่าวว่า พ้นไปจากรูป ไม่ไปสู่ที่อยู่ของมาร ไม่ตกอยู่ในอำนาจของมาร อันมารผู้มีบาปพึงทำตามปรารถนาไม่ได้ฯลฯ ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ธรรมารมณ์ที่จะพึงรู้แจ้งด้วยใจอันน่าปรารถนา น่าใคร่ น่าพอใจ น่ารัก ชักให้ใคร่ ชวนให้กำหนัด มีอยู่ หากภิกษุไม่เพลิดเพลิน ไม่หมกมุ่น ไม่พัวพันธรรมารมณ์นั้น ภิกษุนี้เรากล่าวว่า พ้นไปจากธรรมารมณ์ ไม่ไปสู่ที่อยู่ของมาร ไม่ตกอยู่ในอำนาจของมาร อันมารผู้มีบาปพึงทำตามปรารถนาไม่ได้ ฯ

Māra’s Snare (2nd)

“Santi, bhikkhave, cakkhuviññeyyā rūpā, iṭṭhā kantā manāpā piyarūpā kāmūpasaṁhitā rajanīyā.
“Mendicants, there are sights known by the eye, which are likable, desirable, agreeable, pleasant, sensual, and arousing.

Tañce bhikkhu abhinandati abhivadati ajjhosāya tiṭṭhati—
If a mendicant approves, welcomes, and keeps clinging to them,
- 1.3
ayaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, bhikkhu baddho cakkhuviññeyyesu rūpesu, āvāsagato mārassa, mārassa vasaṁ gato, paṭimukkassa mārapāso.
they’re called a mendicant who is bound in sights known by the eye. They’re trapped in Māra’s lair, fallen under Māra’s sway, and caught in Māra’s snare.

Baddho so mārabandhanena yathākāmakaraṇīyo pāpimato …pe….
They’re bound by Māra’s bonds, and the Wicked One can do with them what he wants.

There are sounds … smells … tastes … touches …
- 2.2
santi, bhikkhave, manoviññeyyā dhammā, iṭṭhā kantā manāpā piyarūpā kāmūpasaṁhitā rajanīyā.
ideas known by the mind, which are likable, desirable, agreeable, pleasant, sensual, and arousing.
- 2.3
Tañce bhikkhu abhinandati abhivadati ajjhosāya tiṭṭhati—
If a mendicant approves, welcomes, and keeps clinging to them,

ayaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, bhikkhu baddho manoviññeyyesu dhammesu, āvāsagato mārassa, mārassa vasaṁ gato, paṭimukkassa mārapāso.
