Paṭhamachaphassāyatanasutta
One who does not understand the six senses’ origin, ending, gratification, drawback, and escape is no true mendicant. A mendicant speaks up, saying that he does not truly understand these things, so the Buddha teaches him further.

ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ก็ภิกษุรูปใดรูปหนึ่งไม่ทราบชัด ความเกิด ความดับ คุณ โทษ และอุบายเครื่องสลัดออกแห่งผัสสายตนะ ๖ ตามความเป็นจริง พรหมจรรย์อันเธอไม่อยู่จบแล้ว
เธอเป็นผู้ไกลจากธรรมวินัยนี้ เมื่อพระผู้มีพระภาคตรัสอย่างนี้แล้ว ภิกษุรูปหนึ่งได้กราบทูลพระผู้มีพระภาคว่า ข้าแต่พระองค์ผู้เจริญ ข้าพระองค์เป็นผู้ฉิบหายในศาสนานี้ เพราะข้าพระองค์ไม่ทราบชัด ความเกิด ความดับ คุณ โทษ และอุบายเครื่องสลัดออกแห่งผัสสายตนะ ๖ ตามความเป็นจริง ฯ
พ. ดูกรภิกษุ เธอจะสำคัญความข้อนั้นเป็นไฉน เธอพิจารณาเห็นจักษุว่า นั่นของเรา นั่นเป็นตัวตนของเรา ดังนี้หรือ ฯ
ภิ. หามิได้ พระเจ้าข้า ฯ
พ. ดีละ ภิกษุ ในข้อนี้การที่เธอพิจารณาเห็นจักษุด้วยอาการอย่างนี้ว่า นั่นไม่ใช่ของเรา นั่นไม่เป็นเรา นั่นไม่ใช่ตัวตนของเรา ดังนี้ จักเป็นอันเธอเห็นดีแล้วด้วยปัญญาอันชอบตามความเป็นจริง นี้แล เป็นที่สุดแห่งทุกข์ ฯลฯ
พ. เธอจะสำคัญความข้อนั้นเป็นไฉน เธอพิจารณาเห็นใจว่า นั่นของเรา นั่นเป็นเรา นั่นเป็นตัวตนของเรา ดังนี้หรือ ฯ
ภิ. หามิได้ พระเจ้าข้า ฯ
พ. ดีละ ภิกษุ ในข้อนี้การที่เธอพิจารณาเห็นใจว่า นั่นไม่ใช่ของเรา นั่นไม่เป็นเรา นั่นไม่ใช่ตัวตนของเรา ดังนี้ จักเป็นอันเธอเห็นดีแล้วด้วยปัญญา อันชอบตามความเป็นจริง นี้แล เป็นที่สุดแห่งทุกข์ ฯ

“Yo hi koci, bhikkhave, bhikkhu channaṁ phassāyatanānaṁ samudayañca atthaṅgamañca assādañca ādīnavañca nissaraṇañca yathābhūtaṁ nappajānāti.
“Mendicants, anyone who doesn’t truly understand the six fields of contact’s origin, disappearance, gratification, drawback, and escape

Avusitaṁ tena brahmacariyaṁ, ārakā so imasmā dhammavinayā”ti.
has not completed the spiritual journey and is far from this teaching and training.”

Evaṁ vutte, aññataro bhikkhu bhagavantaṁ etadavoca:
When he said this, one of the mendicants said to the Buddha,

“etthāhaṁ, bhante, anassasaṁ.
“Here, sir, I’m discouraged.

Ahañhi, bhante, channaṁ phassāyatanānaṁ samudayañca atthaṅgamañca assādañca ādīnavañca nissaraṇañca yathābhūtaṁ nappajānāmī”ti.
For I don’t truly understand the six fields of contact’s origin, disappearance, gratification, drawback, and escape.”

“Taṁ kiṁ maññasi, bhikkhu,
“What do you think, mendicant?
- 3.2
cakkhuṁ ‘etaṁ mama, esohamasmi, eso me attā’ti samanupassasī”ti?
Do you regard the eye like this: ‘This is mine, I am this, this is my self’?”

“No hetaṁ, bhante”.
“No, sir.”
- 5.1
“Sādhu, bhikkhu, ettha ca te, bhikkhu, cakkhu ‘netaṁ mama, nesohamasmi, na meso attā’ti evametaṁ yathābhūtaṁ sammappaññāya sudiṭṭhaṁ bhavissati.
“Good, mendicant! And regarding the eye, you will truly see clearly with right wisdom that: ‘This is not mine, I am not this, this is not my self.’

Just this is the end of suffering.

manaṁ ‘etaṁ mama, esohamasmi, eso me attā’ti samanupassasī”ti?
Do you regard the mind like this: ‘This is mine, I am this, this is my self’?”

“Sādhu, bhikkhu, ettha ca te, bhikkhu, mano ‘netaṁ mama, nesohamasmi, na meso attā’ti evametaṁ yathābhūtaṁ sammappaññāya sudiṭṭhaṁ bhavissati.
“Good, mendicant! And regarding the mind, you will truly see clearly with right wisdom that: ‘This is not mine, I am not this, this is not my self.’

Esevanto dukkhassā”ti.
Just this is the end of suffering.”
