Dutiyaānandasutta

The Buddha explains to Ānanda the difference between psychic powers, the basis for psychic power, and the development of the bases for psychic power.

ข้อ ๑๒๒๖พระผู้มีพระภาคได้ตรัสถามท่านพระอานนท์ผู้นั่งอยู่ ณ ที่ควรส่วนข้างหนึ่งว่า ดูกรอานนท์ อิทธิเป็นไฉน อิทธิบาทเป็นไฉน อิทธิบาทภาวนาเป็นไฉน ปฏิปทาที่จะให้ถึงอิทธิบาทภาวนาเป็นไฉน? ท่านพระอานนท์กราบทูลว่า ข้าแต่พระองค์ผู้เจริญ ธรรมของข้าพระองค์ทั้งหลายมีพระผู้มีพระภาคเป็นรากฐาน ฯลฯ

ข้อ ๑๒๒๗พ. ดูกรอานนท์ ภิกษุในธรรมวินัยนี้ ย่อมแสดงฤทธิ์ได้หลายอย่าง คือ คนเดียวเป็นหลายคนก็ได้ หลายคนเป็นคนเดียวก็ได้ ฯลฯ ใช้อำนาจทางกายไปตลอดพรหมโลกก็ได้ นี้เรียกว่า อิทธิ.

ข้อ ๑๒๒๘ก็อิทธิบาทเป็นไฉน? มรรคาอันใด ปฏิปทาอันใด ย่อมเป็นไปเพื่อได้ฤทธิ์ เพื่อได้เฉพาะซึ่งฤทธิ์ นี้เรียกว่า อิทธิบาท.

ข้อ ๑๒๒๙ก็อิทธิบาทภาวนาเป็นไฉน? ภิกษุในธรรมวินัยนี้ ย่อมเจริญอิทธิบาทอันประกอบด้วยฉันทสมาธิและปธานสังขาร ย่อมเจริญอิทธิบาทอันประกอบด้วยวิริยสมาธิ … จิตตสมาธิ … วิมังสาสมาธิและปธานสังขาร นี้เรียกว่า อิทธิบาทภาวนา.

เล่ม ๑๙ · หน้า ๒๙๗ก็ปฏิปทาที่จะให้ถึงอิทธิบาทภาวนาเป็นไฉน? อริยมรรคประกอบด้วยองค์ ๘ นี้แหละ คือ สัมมาทิฏฐิ ฯลฯ สัมมาสมาธิ นี้เรียกว่า ปฏิปทาที่จะให้ถึงอิทธิบาทภาวนา.

    Ekamantaṁ nisinnaṁ kho āyasmantaṁ ānandaṁ bhagavā etadavoca:

    The Buddha said to Venerable Ānanda:

    “katamā nu kho, ānanda, iddhi, katamo iddhipādo, katamā iddhipādabhāvanā, katamā iddhipādabhāvanāgāminī paṭipadā”ti?

    “Ānanda, what is psychic power? What is the basis of psychic power? What is the development of the bases of psychic power? And what is the practice that leads to the development of the bases of psychic power?”

    Bhagavaṁmūlakā no, bhante, dhammā bhagavaṁnettikā …pe….

    “Our teachings are rooted in the Buddha. He is our guide and our refuge. …”

    “Idhānanda, bhikkhu anekavihitaṁ iddhividhaṁ paccanubhoti—ekopi hutvā bahudhā hoti …pe… yāva brahmalokāpi kāyena vasaṁ vatteti—

    “Ānanda, take a mendicant who wields the many kinds of psychic power: multiplying themselves and becoming one again … controlling the body as far as the realm of divinity.

    ayaṁ vuccatānanda, iddhi.

    This is called psychic power.

    Katamo cānanda, iddhipādo?

    And what is the basis of psychic power?

    Yo, ānanda, maggo yā paṭipadā iddhilābhāya iddhipaṭilābhāya saṁvattati—

    The path and practice that leads to gaining psychic power.

    ayaṁ vuccatānanda, iddhipādo.

    This is called the basis of psychic power.

    Katamā cānanda, iddhipādabhāvanā?

    And what is the development of the bases of psychic power?

    Ayameva ariyo aṭṭhaṅgiko maggo, seyyathidaṁ—

    sammādiṭṭhi …pe… sammāsamādhi—

    right view, right purpose, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right immersion.

    ayaṁ vuccatānanda, iddhipādabhāvanāgāminī paṭipadā”ti.

    This is called the practice that leads to the development of the bases of psychic power.”
