ข้อ ๒๓๖ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ภิกษุเจ้าอาวาสประกอบด้วยธรรม ๕ ประการ เหมือนถูก นำมาเก็บไว้ในนรก ๕ ประการเป็นไฉน คือ ไม่ใคร่ครวญ ไม่พิจารณาก่อนแล้วกล่าวสรรเสริญ ผู้ควรตำหนิ ๑ ไม่ใคร่ครวญ ไม่พิจารณาก่อนแล้วกล่าวตำหนิผู้ควรสรรเสริญ ๑ ไม่ใคร่ครวญ ไม่พิจารณาก่อนแล้วแสดงความเลื่อมใสให้ปรากฏในที่อันไม่ควรเลื่อมใส ๑ ไม่ใคร่ครวญ ไม่

ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ภิกษุเจ้าอาวาสประกอบด้วยธรรม ๕ ประการ เหมือนถูกเชิญมาอยู่ ในสวรรค์ ๕ ประการเป็นไฉน คือใคร่ครวญพิจารณาก่อนแล้วกล่าวตำหนิผู้ควรตำหนิ ๑ ใคร่ ครวญพิจารณาก่อนแล้วกล่าวสรรเสริญผู้ควรสรรเสริญ ๑ใคร่ครวญพิจารณาก่อนแล้ว แสดง ความไม่เลื่อมใสให้ปรากฏในที่อันไม่ควรเลื่อมใส ๑ ใคร่ครวญพิจารณาก่อนแล้วแสดงความ เลื่อมใสให้ปรากฏในที่อันควรเลื่อมใส ๑ ย่อมไม่ยังศรัทธาไทยให้ตกไป ๑ ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย
ภิกษุเจ้าอาวาสประกอบด้วยธรรม ๕ ประการนี้แล เหมือนถูกเชิญมาอยู่ในสวรรค์ ฯ

Deserving Criticism (1st)

“Pañcahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato āvāsiko bhikkhu yathābhataṁ nikkhitto evaṁ niraye.
“Mendicants, a resident mendicant with five qualities is placed in hell as if delivered there.

Katamehi pañcahi?
What five?
- 1.3
Ananuvicca apariyogāhetvā avaṇṇārahassa vaṇṇaṁ bhāsati;
Without examining or scrutinizing, they praise those deserving of criticism,
- 1.4
ananuvicca apariyogāhetvā vaṇṇārahassa avaṇṇaṁ bhāsati;
and they criticize those deserving of praise.
- 1.5
ananuvicca apariyogāhetvā appasādanīye ṭhāne pasādaṁ upadaṁseti;
Without examining or scrutinizing, they arouse faith in things that are dubious,
- 1.6
ananuvicca apariyogāhetvā pasādanīye ṭhāne appasādaṁ upadaṁseti;
and they don’t arouse faith in things that are inspiring.
- 1.7
saddhādeyyaṁ vinipāteti.
And they waste a gift given in faith.

Imehi kho, bhikkhave, pañcahi dhammehi samannāgato āvāsiko bhikkhu yathābhataṁ nikkhitto evaṁ niraye.
A resident mendicant with these five qualities is placed in hell as if delivered there.

A resident mendicant with five qualities is placed in heaven as if delivered there.

What five?

Anuvicca pariyogāhetvā avaṇṇārahassa avaṇṇaṁ bhāsati;
After examining and scrutinizing, they criticize those deserving of criticism,
- 2.4
anuvicca pariyogāhetvā vaṇṇārahassa vaṇṇaṁ bhāsati;
and they praise those deserving of praise.
- 2.5
anuvicca pariyogāhetvā appasādanīye ṭhāne appasādaṁ upadaṁseti;
They don’t arouse faith in things that are dubious,
- 2.6
anuvicca pariyogāhetvā pasādanīye ṭhāne pasādaṁ upadaṁseti;
and they do arouse faith in things that are inspiring.
- 2.7
saddhādeyyaṁ na vinipāteti.
And they don’t waste a gift given in faith.
- 2.8
