ฉบับหลวงอวิชชาปัจจยสูตร ที่ ๒

ข้อความไทยนี้คือ พระไตรปิฎกภาษาไทย ฉบับหลวง ซึ่งแปลจากพระไตรปิฎกบาลีคนละฉบับกับบาลีที่แสดงอยู่ด้านล่าง จึงไม่ได้เรียงตรงกันบรรทัดต่อบรรทัด — อ่านเป็นสำนวนแปลอิสระอีกฉบับหนึ่ง

พระผู้มีพระภาคประทับอยู่ ณ พระเชตวัน อารามของท่านอนาถบิณฑิกเศรษฐี เขตพระนครสาวัตถี … พระผู้มีพระภาคได้ตรัสว่า ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย เพราะอวิชชาเป็นปัจจัย จึงมีสังขาร เพราะสังขารเป็นปัจจัย จึงมีวิญญาณ ฯลฯ ความเกิดขึ้นแห่งกองทุกข์ทั้งมวลนี้ ย่อมมีด้วยประการอย่างนี้ ฯ

ข้อ ๑๓๘ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ผู้ใดพึงกล่าวว่า ชรามรณะเป็นไฉน และชรามรณะนี้เป็นของใคร หรือพึงกล่าวว่า ชรามรณะเป็นอย่างอื่น และชรามรณะนี้เป็นของผู้อื่น คำทั้งสองของผู้นั้น มีเนื้อความอย่างเดียวกันต่างกันแต่พยัญชนะเท่านั้น เมื่อมีทิฐิว่าชีพก็อันนั้น สรีระก็อันั้น ความอยู่ประพฤติพรหมจรรย์ย่อมไม่มี หรือเมื่อมีทิฐิว่าชีพอย่างหนึ่ง สรีระอย่างหนึ่ง ความอยู่ประพฤติพรหมจรรย์ย่อมไม่มี ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ตถาคตย่อมแสดงธรรมโดยสายกลางไม่ข้องแวะส่วนสุดทั้งสองนั้น ดังนี้ว่าเพราะชาติเป็นปัจจัย จึงมีชรามรณะ ฯลฯ ชาติเป็นไฉน … ภพเป็นไฉน … อุปาทานเป็นไฉน … ตัณหาเป็นไฉน …เวทนาเป็นไฉน … ผัสสะเป็นไฉน … สฬายตนะเป็นไฉน … นามรูปเป็นไฉน …วิญญาณเป็นไฉน … ฯ

ข้อ ๑๓๙ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ผู้ใดพึงกล่าวว่า สังขารเป็นไฉน และสังขารนี้เป็นของใคร หรือพึงกล่าวว่าสังขารเป็นอย่างอื่น และสังขารนี้เป็นของผู้อื่น คำทั้งสองของผู้นั้นมีเนื้อความอย่างเดียวกันต่างกันแต่พยัญชนะเท่านั้น เมื่อมีทิฐิว่าชีพก็อันนั้น สรีระก็อันนั้น ความอยู่ประพฤติพรหมจรรย์ย่อมไม่มี หรือเมื่อมีทิฐิว่าชีพอย่างหนึ่ง สรีระอย่างหนึ่ง ความอยู่ประพฤติพรหมจรรย์ย่อมไม่มี ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ตถาคตย่อมแสดงธรรมโดยสายกลาง ไม่ข้องแวะส่วนสุดทั้งสองนั้น ดังนี้ว่า เพราะอวิชชาเป็นปัจจัยจึงมีสังขาร ฯลฯ

ข้อ ๑๔๐ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ทิฐิไม่ว่าชนิดใดชนิดหนึ่ง ที่เป็นข้าศึกอันบุคคลเสพผิดส่ายหาไปว่า ชรามรณะเป็นไฉน และชรามรณะเป็นของใคร หรือว่าชรามรณะเป็นอย่างอื่น และชรามรณะนี้เป็นของผู้อื่น ว่าชีพก็อันนั้นสรีระก็อันนั้น หรือว่าชีพอย่างหนึ่ง สรีระอย่างหนึ่ง ทิฐิเหล่านั้นทั้งสิ้น อันอริยสาวกนั้นละได้แล้ว ตัดรากขาดแล้ว กระทำให้เป็นดังตาลยอดด้วน ถึงความไม่มี มีอันไม่เกิดอีกต่อไปเป็นธรรมดา เพราะอวิชชาดับด้วยสำรอกโดยไม่เหลือ ฯ

    “Avijjāpaccayā, bhikkhave, saṅkhārā;

    “Ignorance is a requirement for choices.

    evametassa kevalassa dukkhakkhandhassa samudayo hoti.

    That is how this entire mass of suffering originates.

    ‘Katamaṁ jarāmaraṇaṁ, kassa ca panidaṁ jarāmaraṇan’ti iti vā, bhikkhave, yo vadeyya, ‘aññaṁ jarāmaraṇaṁ, aññassa ca panidaṁ jarāmaraṇan’ti iti vā, bhikkhave, yo vadeyya, ubhayametaṁ ekatthaṁ byañjanameva nānaṁ.

    Mendicants, you might say, ‘What are old age and death, and who do they belong to?’ Or you might say, ‘Old age and death are one thing, who they belong to is another.’ But both of these mean the same thing, only the phrasing differs.

    ‘Taṁ jīvaṁ taṁ sarīraṁ’ iti vā, bhikkhave, diṭṭhiyā sati brahmacariyavāso na hoti.

    If you have the view that the soul and the body are one and the same, there is no living of the spiritual life.

    ‘Aññaṁ jīvaṁ aññaṁ sarīraṁ’ iti vā, bhikkhave, diṭṭhiyā sati brahmacariyavāso na hoti.

    If you have the view that the soul is one thing, the body another, there is no living of the spiritual life.

    Ete te, bhikkhave, ubho ante anupagamma majjhena tathāgato dhammaṁ deseti:
